Cafferen was one of the three stormlord houses that declared for the Mad King while Robert was still riding home from the Vale to raise his banners. The plan was to combine and crush the young lord before he could gather strength.
The plan required Robert to be slow, and Robert was never slow. He fell on each host separately at Summerhall and beat all three in one day, which ended Cafferen's rebellion before it properly began and taught the stormlands a lesson they did not need repeating.
