Aerys's Hand and Rhaegar's close friend, Connington cornered a wounded Robert in the town of Stoney Sept and searched it house by house — coming, by every account, within a few doors of the man who would take the throne. He did not burn the town to flush him out, which was a decency the Mad King regarded as failure.

Robert escaped, the riverlords arrived, the bells rang, and the war turned there. Connington lost his Handship, his lands, and his place, and the rebellion acquired the story it would tell forever: the king who could not be found in a brothel.
